About Friends of Bourton Meadow

The Parent Teacher Association for Bourton Meadow Academy goes by the name Friends of Bourton Meadow (FoBM), and comprises a group of dedicated parent volunteers who work diligently to organise enjoyable and engaging activities for the children and arrange fundraising events that involve the entire school and the wider community.

Our primary objective is to provide support to the school by raising additional funds for equipment and resources that the school budget is not able to accommodate, which we accomplish by conducting various events throughout the academic year.

We welcome any questions, comments, or feedback, and encourage interested parties to reach out to us by speaking with a member of our committee or emailing us at friends@bourtonmeadow.co.uk.

Current Project

Our current project is to raise funds to upgrade the sound system in the hall. Although correct at the time of writing, please bear in mind that fundraising projects are constantly under review, as the immediate needs of the school change in response to factors and events that cannot be known in advance. The best way to keep up to date with the latest plans is to attend some of the FoBM open meetings where everyone is very welcome. These are usually held on the second Monday of each month, but keep an eye out on social media

Events

In our efforts to involve as many children and families as possible, we have endeavoured to offer a diverse selection of events and activities in recent years. The frequency and nature of these events is dependent upon the availability of volunteers and is determined throughout the year. Among the events that we typically host are Christmas-themed shopping days dubbed “Elfridges”, discos, and community treasure hunts. Additionally, we organise sponsored events such as the Rainbow Run, provide Sports Day refreshments, offer pizza making kits and put on a selection of free competitions.

Past Achievements

Year Achievement
2022 - 2023 Amazingly over £13,000 was raised this year. Just over £7,500 of which has been spent on the new library. Additionally new books and resources have been purchased, with further funds having been passed into the following academic year to go towards the refurbishment of both the library and KS2 toilet block.
2021 - 2022 A much-anticipated return to fundraising saw us raising a fabulous £10,000 this year. Over £2,600 worth of books were bought for the class libraries and £1,000 spent to provide inflatables for the whole school fun day in the Summer, which had been postponed from before Covid. The remaining funds were carried over to 2022-23 to go towards bigger projects.
2020 - 2021 Due to challenges presented by the Coronavirus pandemic, funds of £8.1k were diverted from the planned sound system upgrade to purchase 31 new iPads to allow the provision of IT teaching to continue for all classes. £3.6k also allocated as part funding to facilitate the safe crossing outside school.
2019 - 2020 Fundraising continued for the remaining balance for the sound system upgrade and part funding (£5,000) towards a dropped kerb at the front of the school and provision of a Lollipop person.
